Lessons learned from pain and suffering! Four pitfalls of NVR (hard disk video recorder)

This issue shares with you a typical weak current case.

After spending half a day installing the IPC (network video camera) at the project site, I can finally sit down to debug the NVR (network hard disk video recorder), but why is there no IPC in the "devices to be added"? Don't worry, let's analyze them one by one.

Analysis: NVR found that IPCs of different brands are based on the ONVIF protocol, which requires that IPC and NVR must be in the same IP segment. The same IP segment is equivalent to the NVR and IPC being in the same room, so that they can talk to each other.
Troubleshooting: The IP address of Hikvision NVR is automatically obtained as 192.168.0.X, while the IP address of a certain brand of IPC is 192.168.1.X, which is not in the same IP segment as the NVR. After changing the IP of NVR to 192.168.1.X, all IPCs are scanned in "Devices to be added". Therefore, if the IPC and NVR are of different brands, make sure they are in the same IP segment.
Tips: When planning a surveillance network, plan the IP addresses of each device in the network in advance to facilitate subsequent operations and inspections.

Second reason: Does the switch have a mode setting?
Case: A dealer in Yan'an, Shaanxi used Dahua NVR with 12 Dahua cameras, and the NVR could not detect any IPC.
Analysis: After inspection, the NVR and IPC belong to the same IP network segment, and all interface indicators are normal, indicating that the problem may be caused by isolation factors.
Troubleshooting: The user used a TP-LINK point-and-shoot switch to power the camera. After connecting 12 IPCs, the switch was switched to "video monitoring" mode, and the NVR was connected to port 7 of the switch. However, in the "video monitoring" mode, only ports 17 and 18 of the TP-LINK switch are uplink ports that can communicate with ports 1 to 16, and the other ports cannot communicate with each other. Connecting the NVR to the uplink port of the switch, or switching the switch to standard switching mode, the IPC can be discovered normally.
The third reason: Are the network cable and crystal head standard?
First, check whether the indicator lights of the corresponding ports of the IPC and NVR connection switches are on. If the indicator lights are not on, the network may be unavailable due to network cable problems. It is recommended to check the network cable first:
The quality of the inferior network cable causes the IPC to fail to detect it. Try replacing it with a better quality network cable.
The network line sequence is incorrect. Please connect the wires according to the standard 568A (white-green, green, white-orange, blue, white-blue, orange, white-brown, brown) or 568B (white-orange, orange, white-green, blue, white-blue, green, white-brown, brown) line sequence.
The crystal plug is not properly installed, resulting in unstable contact of the connection port. It is recommended to reinstall the crystal plug.
Ultra-long-distance wiring requires higher network quality. If it does not work, you can use a network cable tester to test it.
Tips: Monitor and select quality-guaranteed network cables to ensure the power supply and data transmission of the IPC.

Reason 4: Is the IPC power supply normal?
In different engineering sites, there are generally three ways to power the IPC: independent power supply, centralized power supply, and PoE power supply.
If the IPC is far from the power supply, the actual power supply received by the IPC may be insufficient due to cable loss. You can try to verify whether the IPC is started normally at a close distance;
When the power supply is centralized, some IPCs may not be able to operate normally due to insufficient early planning or the addition of new equipment;
If the total power of the power supply is insufficient or the power supply specification is false, you can use a power tester to test;
To check whether the IPC power supply is normal: Cover the camera lens with your hand. If the infrared light is on, it means the power supply is normal.
Tips: Insufficient IPC power supply will affect the use. The power specification is labeled on the tail end of the camera. It is recommended to supply power according to the specification.
