Beijing Unicom leverages 5G-A intelligent network to support the grand opening of the world's first humanoid robot games

Today, the 2025 World Humanoid Robot Games officially kicked off at the Beijing National Speed Skating Oval. Over 500 humanoid robots from nearly 280 teams around the world competed in a variety of scenarios, including athletics, performance, industrial, and medical, providing an unprecedented viewing experience for tens of thousands of spectators. Beijing Unicom achieved full 5G-Advanced (5G-Advanced) network coverage both inside and outside the stadium. Leveraging 5G-Advanced's high uplink speed, high reliability, and wide connectivity, it provided intelligent, reliable, and secure network services for the event, laying a solid foundation for accelerating the full commercialization of humanoid robots.

The AI industry is currently experiencing rapid development. Diverse interaction methods, including multimodal and cross-device interactions, are reshaping personal experiences. The number of IoT connections is growing exponentially, and AI is being integrated into core production processes, reshaping them. This competition's core target—embodied intelligent robots—poses clear and customized requirements on communication networks in terms of environmental interaction, real-time decision-making, precise positioning, and multi-machine collaboration.

Beijing Unicom provided multi-dimensional network capabilities for both humans and robots, including high uplink speed, high reliability, and wide connectivity. Outside the venue, 5G-A high- and low-frequency 1:1 three-dimensional networking boosted peak uplink and downlink speeds to 4Gb/s and 11.2Gb/s, respectively. Inside the venue, LampSite's ultra-high 300MHz bandwidth boosted the network's peak speed to 2.4Gb/s.

Qin Yang, Deputy General Manager of Beijing Unicom, said: "Beijing Unicom is committed to upgrading its 5G-A network, 'built for people,' into a next-generation intelligent foundation for the symbiosis of 'people and embodied intelligence.' Our 5G-A venue acceleration feature maintains a dedicated network channel for spectators while also reserving a flexibly scalable 'second channel' for robots. Whether it's the extreme traffic impact of tens of thousands of visitors after the start of the competition or the subsequent low-latency control and remote connectivity required for robotics, 5G-A can easily handle it."

As the world's first international sporting event centered around humanoid robots, this Games not only represents the perfect fusion of technology and sports, but also demonstrates the artificial intelligence industry's entry into a new stage of scaled, competitive development. As the Games' exclusive global communications services partner, China Unicom will leverage its core technological advantages in 5G-A, AI, and all-optical networks, collaborating with ecosystem partners to create an intelligent event environment with millisecond-level response and zero-fault operation, presenting an unprecedented technological feast to global audiences and injecting strong momentum into the innovative development of the robotics industry.
